Clinical Music Therapy for Adults

Evidence based treatment using music to support cognitive, emotional, and physical health

Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized therapeutic goals within a professional therapeutic relationship. Unlike music lessons or entertainment, music therapy is provided by a board-certified therapist who assesses each client’s needs, develops a treatment plan, and uses structured music-based techniques to support cognitive, emotional, and physical functioning. This clinical approach is commonly used to support adults with neurological conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke recovery.
Through guided musical activities such as listening, rhythm-based exercises, singing, and interactive music engagement, therapy sessions stimulate different areas of the brain and encourage communication, memory recall, movement, and emotional expression. Because music activates multiple neural networks, it can help maintain cognitive engagement, reduce anxiety, and promote meaningful connection even when other forms of communication become difficult. Each session is personalized to support the individual goals and needs of the client.
